About this tool
Load a photo and this tool erases the background by colour: it either floods in from the edges (best when the subject does not touch the border) or removes every pixel close to a colour you click. Adjust the tolerance and edge softness until the cut-out looks right, then download a transparent PNG. It works entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. This is a colour-based cut-out, not an AI matting model, so plain, high-contrast backgrounds give the cleanest result and busy or gradient backgrounds will not separate perfectly.
How to use it
- Choose an image with the subject clearly separated from the background.
- Pick Auto for edge-based removal, or Pick colour and click the background in the preview.
- Tune tolerance and edge softness, press Remove background, then download the PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Does it use AI?
No. It removes pixels that are close in colour to the background, so it is fast and private but not as precise as an AI matting service on complex images.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and processed in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
The edges look rough - what can I do?
Lower the tolerance so it removes less, raise the edge softness by one or two, or switch to Pick colour and click a representative background spot.
