About this tool

Type your grades and, if your school uses them, the weight of each test. The calculator gives the simple or weighted average, compares it with your school's passing grade on a 0–10 or 0–100 scale, and - if there is still a test to come - tells you exactly what you need to score on it to pass. Grades can be typed with a decimal comma or point. Everything is calculated in your browser.

How to use it

  1. 1 Type your grades separated by spaces or semicolons.
  2. 2 Add the weights in the same order if your school uses them.
  3. 3 Set the passing grade, the maximum grade and the weight of the next test.
  4. 4 Read your average and the grade you need next.

Frequently asked questions

How is a weighted average calculated?

Multiply each grade by its weight, add the results and divide by the sum of the weights. With grades 4 and 6 and weights 1 and 2: (4×1 + 6×2) ÷ 3 = 5.33.

How do I find the grade I need on the next test?

Needed = (passing grade × total weight including the next test − current weighted sum) ÷ weight of the next test. The calculator does this for you.

Does my school round the average?

Some schools round to one decimal or to the nearest half point. The calculator shows the exact value; check your school rules.
